The Honda Civic Car

Torrance, Calif. 08/31/2005 -- American Honda Motor Co. Inc., announced today that it has delivered 100,000 hybrid vehicles to retail customers since it began offering the gasoline-electric technology nearly six years ago. Jamie Gulley of Minneapolis, Minnesota became the 100,000th hybrid customer when he took delivery of a Honda Civic Hybrid from Richfield-Bloomington Honda in Richfield, MN.

Honda was the first manufacturer to offer a hybrid vehicle in North America and the first to offer three distinct hybrid vehicles, the Insight, Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid. The 100,000-hybrid milestone combines sales of all three of Honda's hybrid vehicles starting with the first Insight sale in 1999. Having the nation's best EPA-rated fuel economy in the Honda Insight, the simple practicality of the Civic Hybrid and the class leading performance and fuel economy of the Accord Hybrid demonstrates Honda's position as a hybrid technology leader.

"We are proud to have achieved this accomplishment of selling 100,000 units," said Richard Colliver, Executive Vice-President of American Honda. "Honda's products deliver on the needs of a concerned automotive consumer who believes in minimally impacting the environment and conserving natural resources."

The Civic Hybrid, Accord Hybrid and Insight are powered by Honda's innovative Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid technology. The IMA system employs an ultra-compact electric motor/generator to provide supplemental power to the engine using energy captured during deceleration or braking.

Honda first introduced U.S. consumers to hybrid technology with the Insight in December 1999. It launched its second hybrid vehicle, the Civic Hybrid, in March 2002, followed by the first-ever V6-powered hybrid, the Accord Hybrid, in December 2004. The company will introduce an all-new version of its popular Civic Hybrid this fall featuring an advanced new look, class leading features and enhanced performance.

"I wouldn't get rid of it for anything. (A tank of gas) lasts me two weeks of commuting," Kennell said of his 3-year-old Honda Civic that combines a gasoline engine with battery power to save fuel and cut harmful vehicle emissions.

With gas prices hovering near $3 a gallon, people across the nation have followed Kennell's lead and bought a hybrid car. That nationwide hybrid-car craze hasn't hit Central Illinois, however, where gasoline peaked at $3.20 per gallon before dropping down to around $2.70 in the Twin Cities Friday.

"Frankly I think it's really strange," said Mike James, manager of Brad Barker Honda in Bloomington. "People are just pumping $40 to $50 in the tank and going on."

Barker's sales of hybrid cars are up slightly but not significantly, James said.

Nationwide, however, hybrid sales are in high gear. Sales of Honda's three hybrid vehicles increased 240 percent from July to August, James said. In August, Honda dealers across the country sold more than 6,700 hybrids.

"A lot of consumers are buying them because they're earth friendly. I also think there are those who want to make a (fashion) statement as well: They want to be the first on the block with the latest technology," said John Tews, a spokesman for J.D. Power & Associates in Troy, Mich.

J.D. Power expects national hybrid sales to triple in 2005 from the 87,000 sold in 2004, Tews said. Through August, national sales have totaled more than 135,000, according to hybridcars.com.

There are many specialists that specialize in Honda Civic Tuning and Servicing (as well as other Japanese cars), so taking your 2000 Honda Civic Si, or your 1994 Honda Accord should not be a problem. The 2006 Honda Civic picture trully brings out the personality of the auto, one that will even be better in 2007- I can't wait. Now go out there and get a 20" Honda Civic rim, or spinners.
